How to Apply for the UNESCO Internship Programme 2026 (Step-by-Step)

  1. Prepare your documents in advance:
    • Update your résumé (CV).
    • Write a strong motivation letter explaining your interest in UNESCO and how the internship aligns with your studies/career goals.
    • Ensure any documents not in English or French are accompanied by an unofficial translation in one of these languages.
    • Confirm your contact details will remain valid for at least the next 6 months.
  2. Visit the official application portal: Go to the UNESCO Careers page for internships: https://careers.unesco.org/go/Internships-and-volunteers/783902/
  3. Review available positions: Browse the list of current internship vacancies (e.g., in sectors like Education, Culture, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Priority Africa, Communications, and more). Positions are often listed under “Multiple” locations or specific offices like Paris. Deadlines vary by position (some extend to June 2026 or later; check each listing for the exact deadline, such as 13 February 2026 for certain roles).
  4. Select and apply to specific internships: Click on a relevant vacancy and follow the “Apply Now” prompts. Applications are submitted online through the UNESCO talent community portal. You have one hour to complete the form once started, so have your documents ready.
  5. Submit your application: Use only English or French for the application. Your candidature remains active in the portal for 6 months, during which UNESCO managers worldwide may review it.
  6. Wait for contact: UNESCO does not respond to every applicant. If shortlisted, a hiring manager will contact you directly. If you hear nothing within 6 months, your application was not successful.
