The University of Alberta is now accepting applications for the Churchill Cambridge Scholarship 2027. This prestigious, fully funded award supports outstanding graduates to pursue a PhD in Engineering at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
Established at the request of Sir Winston Churchill during the founding of Churchill College, Cambridge, the scholarship strengthens the US–UK partnership in science and technology. It is awarded based on both academic excellence and research achievement.
Scholarship Value and Benefits
- Value: $64,000 per year (approximately).
- Covers costs of study, travel, research, and living expenses.
- Normally renewed for a second and third year, subject to satisfactory progress.
- Recipients join Churchill College, Cambridge, which hosts a strong community of engineering and science graduate students.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the University of Alberta Churchill Cambridge Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a graduate of the University of Alberta, entering PhD studies at the University of Cambridge, OR
- Be completing a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Engineering at the University of Alberta.
- Graduates with one or two years of professional experience are also considered.
The scholarship focuses on engineering disciplines. Cambridge’s Department of Engineering includes six main research divisions:
- Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, Acoustics, Turbomachinery
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanics and Materials
- Geotechnical and Structures
- Manufacturing and Management
- Information Engineering (control, communications, and computing)
There is also a separate Department of Chemical Engineering.
